Today I gave blood for the first time in four months. This is the first time I've given blood that was not part of a blood drive at school and the experience was very interesting for many reasons, the least of which was that my blood technician was as nerdy and in all likelihood more nerdy then I'll ever been. He started off by asking me if I knew where the skull and crossbones came from. I was wearing my Storm Trooper and Crossbones T-Shirt so this wasn't totally out of the blue. He informed me that it was a clever ruse by the Knights Templar to convince solders to fight during the crusades, I'm not quite sure I follow that but I'll accept it. Why not the Knights Templar did use a lot of weird things to convince people to fight. He then told me that the Knights were also weird because they were monks so they weren't allowed to have facial hair, and had to shave their heads, but when they were in the Muslim world they decided they had to keep their beards as status of their power. It was one strange seguway after another, which led us to discuss the practicality of swimming in Storm Trooper armor. Then about a spoof of Orange County Choppers, called Sith County Choppers, and finally ending when I nearly passed out from lack of blood. Apparently I have what is called a mild reaction to blood loss, and should I let them know this before hand, they can avoid this situation by giving my soda at the start of my donation. All in all not a big deal, a very common reaction. What was the most striking however was that before I was even done giving my current allotment of blood they were hitting me up for another dose at the next earliest time. They also tried to make me feel bad about waiting 4 months between donations instead of donating as often as I can. They even suggested that Instead of whole blood I should do double red cell donations where they take the platelets and plasma and pump it back into your body, so they can extract more red blood cells. That sounds lovely doesn't it? I don't think i'll be doing that but I might donate blood more regularly, after all I am helping people and it's not really all that bad, aside from the horrible pictures which go with the new computerized version of donors test. Male-Male contact has a hilarious photo of two guys doing a man hug. All in all it was an eventful visit, and besides the whole, your a bad person for not donating enough speech, I feel like did a good deed.
I guess this means my quota is met and I can stab kittens now?
